JACKSON, Mississippi - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team lost on an overtime buzzer beater 66-64 to Mississippi University for Women Sunday afternoon at the Millsaps College Tournament.

After a Shadd Cole layup to tie the game at 64-64 with four seconds remaining in overtime, MUW dribble the length of the floor scoring a layup at the buzzer for the 66-64 final. 

Down 28-22 at the half, the Yellow Jackets battled back in the second outscoring MUW 33-27 to force overtime. Shadd Cole put in two free-throws with 1:50 remaining in regulation to give HPU a 55-53 lead but after a MUW layup 19 seconds later neither team could secure the win in regulation.

The Jackets used 48.1% shooting in the second half while holding MUW to 30% shooting to fuel their comeback. 

Shadd Cole led HPU with 18 points along with six rebounds. Timothy Aguero followed with 13 points and three assists. Talen Davis had a game-high six assists and Joshua Taylor grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

MUW was led by Iii'yan Scott with 20 points followed by Keith Harris with 15 points.

Howard Payne stands at 0-5 on the year and MUW is now 1-5 overall. The Yellow Jackets will play next on Tuesday in Abilene, Texas versus D-I Abilene Christian University, it will be a 6:00 pm start time.
