BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne University's
Timothy Aguero hit a fade away baseline jumper at the buzzer to defeat the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 76-74 and secured a spot for the Yellow Jackets in the ASC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament starting Thursday.
With the game tied at 74-74 with 28 second left, the opportunity can for HPU to get the last shot for the win. Senior

Timothy Aguero grabbed put up the fade away shot on the baseline for the victory.
The game winner capped a push by the Jackets to overcome a 10-point deficit, with 7:18 remaining in the game. From that point HPU went on a 12-1 run over the next three minutes to gain a three-point advantage, 63-60 HPU.
The Jackets outrebounded the Cru 51-35 on the night and held UMHB to just 7 of 29 three-point shooting. Also second chance point played a key role for HPU outscoring UMHB 27-14 in the category.
Senior
Khyce Randall scored a game high 36 points along with nine rebounds. He was 12 of 13 at the free-throw line on the night. Randall also moved past
Brandon Gould to #8 on the all-time scoring list at HPU with 1,669 career points.
Darren Farmer added 13 points off the bench and
Thomas Bingham was 4 of 5 from the field for eight points and grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
UMHB was led by Brian Long with 15 points followed by Lakendric Hyson and Demarius Cress with 13 points each.
Howard Payne ends the regular season at 11-14 overall and 7-10 in American Southwest Conference action. Mary Hardin-Baylor is now 17-8 overall and 10-7 in league play. The Jackets next game will be in the opening round of the ASC Championship Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 22nd versus LeTourneau University at 2:30 pm.
