BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team wrapped up its three-game series vs. the #3 ranked University of Texas at Tyler on Friday afternoon. They were held scoreless as the Patriots went on to capture the 12-0 and 13-0 victories.
UT-Tyler would capture the three-game series sweep by utilizing some strong pitching to hold Howard Payne to only two hits on the day. The Patriots saw their record improve to 23-1, 14-1 ASC.
Tonya Thompson and
Haley Slater each registered singles and
Kendra Evans,
Tia Campos and
Gabrielle Roque all split time in the circle for the Lady Jackets.Â
UT-Tyler scored three runs in the first inning to start the days scoring festivities. Evans would hold the Patriots bats silent in the second inning before they were able to go off for nine unanswered runs to collect the victory in game one.
They would start the second game off by going for 11 runs in the games first three innings and then adding insurance runs in the fourth and fifth to capture the 13-0 victory in game two.
Howard Payne will now head back out on the road for a three-game series vs. McMurry University on Friday, April 6th. The first day is slated to be a doubleheader with the first game starting at 1:00 PM. The third and conclusive game of the series will be on Saturday at noon.
