AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team got two three-set singles points to claim a 5-4 victory over Concordia University Texas Saturday afternoon.
After taking two of three doubles points to start the day, Howard Payne used singles wins from
Chesney Goza,
Erin McCleer and
Erin Blanchard to secure the 5-4 conference match.
Goza won 6-2, 6-1 in number one singles,
Erin McCleer was a three set winner 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in number two singles and in number three singles
Erin Blanchard was a three set winner 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The victory sets the Lady Jackets in a great position to claim their second consecutive an American Southwest Conference tournament birth.
Howard Payne is now 5-14 overall and Concordia stands at 7-6 on the year. The Lady Jackets will finish out the regular season on April 21st in Alpine, Texas versus Sul Ross State University.
