BELTON, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team wrapped up their three-game series vs. the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday afternoon. The Lady Jackets were held to one hit as the Lady Cru took the game and the series with the 8-0 victory in five innings.

Shawneece Jones led off the game with a hard hit single to third base and Tonya Thompson put her in scoring position with a sac bunt. But UMHB was able to settle down and force a ground out to end the inning and Howard Payne's early opportunity for a run.

The Lady Cru would go on to score seven runs in the games preceding three innings to pull ahead 7-0. Howard Payne had a hard time finding any rhythm in the batter's box and a walk-off double in the bottom of the fifth forced the game into an early close. 

UMHB would collect the 8-0 victory and the series sweep. Next up for the Lady Jackets will be a home series vs. Sul Ross State University. The first of three games will begin on Thursday with time TBA. Tune into HPUSports for game info, links to live stats and video plus more.
