Null Hits Three Home Runs In Win

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University's Blake Null tied an American Southwest Conference record with three home runs in a 19-4 conference victory for the Yellow Jackets over McMurry University Friday afternoon at Dan Shepard Park.

Blake Null hit three home runs on his first three at bats tying the ASC record for home runs in a game. Null finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with nine runs batted in.

The Yellow Jackets jumped on the War Hawks early scoring five runs in the first and six runs in the second. The first inning was highlighted by a Blake Null three-run homer and the second by another Null three-run shot to left center.

Null accounted for Howard Payne's two runs in the fourth with his third home run this time with Jay Holland on base.

The Yellow Jackets added six more runs in the sixth to cruise to the 19-4 final

Dylan Vilaros (2-2) was solid in the start for HPU allowing three runs on ten hits and striking out three in seven innings. Preston Newman threw one inning of relief allowing two hits. Brehnen Mitchell went 1/3 inning and Vernon Hart threw the final 2/3 inning to finish the game.

Cliff Lunceford was 3-for-6 at the plate with one RBI, Bailey Smith was 2-for-4 and Joshua Gerig finished 2-for-2 on the day.

Howard Payne is now 16-11 overall and 5-8 in American Southwest Conference action. McMurry stands at 7-18 overall and 2-11 in league play. The two teams will finish out the series with a double header on Saturday starting at noon.
