JACKSON, MISS- The Howard Payne University men's soccer team fells to conference opponent Belhaven University 1-2 on the road late this evening. 

Michael Westerman was able to find the back of the net off of a penalty kick in the 11th minute of the game. Scoring Howard Payne's only goal in the match. 

Tensions get high in the first half when each team receives a yellow card in the first 20 minutes of the game. This was followed by a Belhaven header into the goal at the 24th minute. The Blazers are able to find the goal once more before the half, ending the first period 1-2 Belhaven. 

Seventeen total fouls were committed by both teams and six cautions were given out in the match. Belhaven outshot Howard Payne 12-5 overall and 5-4 in shots on goal despite the Jackets playing down a player for more than have the match.

Yellow Jackets come back out fighting shooting four out of their five shots on goal in the second half. Though not being able to connect with the net, the game ended 1-2 with a Howard Payne loss. 

Howard Payne is now 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Belhaven is 2-3-2 overall. Yellow Jackets will head to Pineville, Louisiana on Saturday September 22nd to play Louisiana College at 3:30 P.M. at Wildcat Stadium.
