JACKSON, Mississippi - The Howard Payne University women's soccer team had its highest scoring output of the season in a 4-2 conference victory over Belhaven University Thursday evening.
Despite being outshot 15-10 in the match, the Lady Jackets took advantage of what they had connecting on four of their eight shots on goal.
Howard Payne's
Megan Jakubisin scored the first goal for the Lady Jackets in the 16th minute of the match; it was Jakbisin's first goal of the season. But Belhaven struck back fast tying the game only moments later.Â
Jada Austin was able to give the lead back to HPU by scoring two back-to-back goals later in the first half. Lady Jackets
Kaitlyn Harrison and
Chrissa Manning were able to assist Austin on the two goals, ending the first period 3-1 Howard Payne.
The Lady Jackets are able to come out and get the first goal in the second half. Manning scoring in the 80th minute, on an assist from
Mariah Gonzales.Â
Belhaven is able to find the goal one last time, ending the game with a 4-2 victory for Howard Payne.Â
Howard Payne is now 1-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, Belhaven is now 1-5-1 overall. The Lady Jackets will head to Pineville, Louisiana on Saturday September 22nd to play Louisiana College at 1:00 P.M. at Wildcat Stadium.Â
