BROWNWOOD, Texas -
Lily Janek scores a career high 27 points for Howard Payne University to lead the Lady Jackets to an 80-69 conference victory over Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne used a 35 point third quarter to pull away from Sul Ross. Shooting over 60% from the field in the third, the Lady Jackets would hold a 16 point advantage going into the fourth on their way to the 80-69 final.
Howard Payne forced 27 turnovers and held Sul Ross to 36% shooting in the game. Sul Ross did win the rebounding battle 45-36 and went 20 of 24 at the free-throw line.
With a game high 27 points,
Lily Janek was 7 of 14 from the field, 5 of 9 from behind the arc and 8 of 10 from the charity stripe.
Chelsey Harris followed with 17 points.
Payge Grable also had a solid game with 13 points, seven assists and three steals.
Sul Ross was led by Chandre Nunez with 26 points. Jazmine Saucedo had 13 points and Jocelyne Roque with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 5-11 overall and 2-5 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross stands at 4-12 overall and 2-5 in league play. The Lady Jackets will be on the road next week in Abilene, Texas, Thursday at Hardin-Simmons at 5:30 pm and Saturday at McMurry at 1:00 pm.
