Jackets Drop Road Game To Eagles

CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team was outscored by 14 points in the second half in a 73-61 conference loss to the University of the Ozarks Thursday evening.

With Howard Payne holding a 30-28 halftime lead, the University of the Ozarks shot 53% from the field in the second half using a surge midway through the second half to gain the lead.

HPU's Luke Cox hit a jumper with 6:21 remaining in the game to make it a five point ball game, 55-50 Ozarks. The Eagles pushed their lead to 12 points three minutes later and held on for the 73-61 final.

Thomas Bingham led HPU with 14 points on 7 of 11 sooting along with six rebounds. Shadd Cole followed with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Timothy Aguero added nine points and a game high five assists. Luke Cox led the Yellow Jacket bench with eight points.

Ozarks was led by Lance Gardner, Jacobe Davis and Skyler Barnes with 10 points each.

Howard Payne is now 2-12 overall and 1-5 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks stands at 3-10 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Jackets will now travel to the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday for a 3:00 pm game.
