ALPINE, Texas - Despite a 1-0 loss today at Sul Ross State University, the Howard Payne University Lady Jackets will be headed to the American Southwest Conference women's soccer tournament for the first time in five years next week.
The Howard Payne woman's soccer team fell to Sul Ross State Lobos 1-0 in a defensive filled first half Friday afternoon.
With the Howard Payne defense holding Sul Ross scoreless in the first period, the Lobos were able to find the back of the net for their only goal of the game in the 68th minutes.
The Lady Jackets had opportunities but fell behind 18-13 in total shots and 12-7 in shots on goals. HPU freshman
Kara Moore led the team with five shots and three shots on goal.

Delaney Castor played the full 90 minutes for HPU, recording 11 saves and allowing just one goal.
Howard Payne stands 8-9-2 and 4-6-1 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross finishes its season 4-9-4 overall and 3-6-2 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will take on the University Mary Hardin-Baylor in the first round of the ASC Championship tournament on Nov. 5th at 5:00 pm in Belton.
