ALPINE, Texas – Howard Payne University's Chelsey Harris scored a game high 21 points in a 65-60 Lady Jacket  victory over Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon.  

The Lady Jackets used an 11-0 run midway through the first quarter to open up a lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

HPU's Payge Grable hit three consecutive three-point buckets to spark the Lady Jacket run. Grable finished the game with 20 points.

Outscoring the Lobos 22-12 in the first quarter, Howard Payne would lead 37-29 at the halftime break.

Sul Ross was able to cut the lead to four with just under a minute to play in the game but HPU's Payge Grable hit 4 of 4 free-throws to close out the game 65-60.

Following Chelsey Harris' game high 21 points and four steals for HPU was Anastasia Willis with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Salina Ali finished with a game high five assists.

Sul Ross was led by Jocelyne Roque with 17 points and 17 rebounds.

Howard Payne is now 8-13 overall and 5-7 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross stands at 5-16 overall and 3-9 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play at home next on Thursday versus McMurry University at 5:30 pm.
