BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team started their season with a double-header wins at Lady Jacket Field earlier this afternoon against Jarvis Christian College.

Aurora Luera was able to start the Lady Jackets off in the first game, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning.

Kayla Hill hit a home run into the left center; bringing in three runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Lady Jackets were able to hold of the Bulldogs throughout the whole game. Scoring again in the 5th and 6th innings, ending the game 8-0 in the sixth.
The Lady Jackets continued to prevail in the second game with
Alexis Sullivan bringing in Luera in for a run on a sac fly to left field in the bottom of the first inning. HPU was able to score two more runs throughout the bottom of the 4th.
Jarvis Christian was able to bring one run in in the top of the sixth inning to put them on the board for the first time for the day,
Audrey Simpson was solid in the circle for HPU shutting the door on the Bulldog push in the 3-1 final.
Tia Compos picked up the win in game one and combined with
Gabrielle Roque and
Audrey Simpson to hold Jarvis Christian to just two total hits in the game. Simpson recorded the win in game two allowing one run on five hits in 6.2 innings of work. She also struckout five.
HPU's Luera was 4 of 6 on the day with five runs scored.

Alexis Sullivan and
Kayla Hill each recorded two hits in game one of the double header.
Howard Payne is now 2-0 in the season. Next up for the Lady Jackets is a double header on the road against Huston-Tillotson University, next Tuesday, February 12th at 12:00 pm & 2:00 pm.
