Softball Run Rules SAGU

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University's softball team went up against Southwest Assemblies of God earlier this afternoon and the Lady Jackets were able to spilt the double header, winning 11-0 in the fifth inning of game two, while taking a 3-7 lost in game one.

Southwest Assemblies was able to get ahead early in game one holding a 3-0 lead after two innings. Then in the third, Aurora Luera was able to to put the Lady Jackets on the board, coming in off of a double to left field by Alexis Sullivan.

Lady Jackets Hailey Slater in the fourth and Aurora Luera in the fifth were able to score each one more time for HPU ending the game with a 7-3 lost.

Despite coming up short in runs, the Lady Jackets were able to out hit SAGU 10-8 and both teams ended the game with one error.

Tia Campos recorded the lost for HPU pitching one inning and facing one batter in the second. While Gabrielle Roque entered the game for Campos, teammate Hannah Stuart finished the game pitching four innings, earning three strikeouts.

HPU started the second game off with a bang bring in three runs in the bottom of the first, off of hits from Emily Martinez and Kayla Anderson.

The Lady Jackets continue to dominate at the top of the fourth inning, scoring two runs off RBI singles from Madison Love and Kayle Hill. A Ragen Noriega sacrifice fly plated a run and then later Emily Martinez hit her first home run of the season, a two run shot to make the score 11-0.

The Lady Jackets got a quick three outs in the top of the 5th, to end the game a run rule 11-0.

HPU was able to lead in hits SAGU 11-6, with a total of nine Lady Jackets recording a hit.

Audrey Simpson pitch all five innings of the game, recording the win for HPU, while earning three strikeouts.

Howard Payne is now 6-6 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play, while SAGU stands at 6-8 overall. The Lady Jackets next game will be at home against East Texas Baptist University on March 8th at 2 P.M. played at Lady Jacket Park.
