BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team completed its three-game sweep of the University of the Ozarks with a 4-1 victory Friday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.

The Lady Jackets of Howard Payne outhit the Eagles 12-7 and used a three-run fifth to secure the 4-1 conference win. 

Down 1-0 after the top of the first inning, the Lady Jackets responded scoring on an Alexis Sullivan RBI single through the right side. Later, it was the three-run fifth that gave HPU the 4-1 lead after a two-run single by Emily Martinez and a RBI double from Kayla Anderson.

Audrey Simpson recorded the win for the third consecutive game in relief for the Lady Jackets to improve to 6-3 on the year. Tia Campos gave up just one run on two hits in the start throwing 2.1 innings. Gabrielle Roque saw 2.1 innings in middle relief allowing no runs and three hits. 

Aurora Luera led the way for the Lady Jackets going 3-for-4 at the plate. Alexis Sullivan, Kayla Hill and Ragen Noriega each had two hits for HPU in the game.

Howard Payne improves to 9-12 overall and 6-9 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks falls to 6-16 overall and 5-13 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play next on Wednesday at home versus Sul Ross State in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
