Brownwood, Texas - The Howard Payne University softback team continued to their battle against East Texas Baptist Tigers with double header earlier today. The fifth ranked ETBU tigers won both 9-4 and 6-2.
In the bottom of the second of game one, the Lady Jackets would bethe first on the board thanks to
Haley Slater's first home run of the season, bringing in
Kayla Anderson. 2-0 Lady Jackets.
Audrey Simpson started in the circle for HPU holding off ETBU till the third inning, giving up three runs. HPU's
Emily Martinez was able to hit a single to left center at the bottom of the 3rd inning to bring in
Tonya Thompson to tie up the game at 3-3.
Audrey Simpson gave up two more runs in the top of the 4th inning, recording the loss for HPU.

Hannah Stuart and finished for the Lady Jackets, ending the game 9-4.

Haley Slater all recorded a hit for HPU.
In game two, HPU was able to hold off the ETBU Tigers once again till the third inning Lady Jacket
Tia Campos stepped into the circle first for HPU pitching two innings, allowing two runs.
ETBU scored two runs in the top of the third inning, leading to Lady Jacket
Hannah Stuart entering the circle for HPU.
Kayla Anderson was able to score on a single to center field from
Kayla Hill in the bottom of the fourth making the score 3-1.
Both teams went through the game recording no errors, though HPU fell behind in gits 9-6. Lady Jackets

Ragen Noriega all recorded a hit for HPU.
Emily Martinez was able to hit a double in the bottom of the fifth bringing in
Tonya Thompson for a run, making the score 4-2. Then, ETBU was able to bring a score in off of a triple to left field in the top of the 7th inning, leading to the 6-2 final.
Howard Payne is now 6-9 overall and 3-6 in American Southwest Conference play, while ETBU stands 19-0 over all and 12-0 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will hit the road this spring break to play a double header against UT Dallas, on Thursday March 14th at 4 PM and 6 PM in Richardson.
