TYLER- The Howard Payne University's softball team lost their first game of their series against the University of Texas at Tyler 16-0 Thursday afternoon.

Tia Campos worked on the mound for the Lady Jackets, pitching a difficult game against UT Tyler who is currently on a 12-game winning streak. Campos recorded the loss for the HPU allowing 20 hits and 16 runs, earning one strike out and throwing 103 pitches.

UT Tyler continued to direct their hits into the outfield, allowing the Patriots to bring in at least one run every inning. The Patriots were able to get most of their runs in by multiple home runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings.

Despite falling behind in total hits 21-2, the Lady Jackets managed to keep their fielding clean ending the game with no errors recorded.

Howard Payne is now 13-17 overall and 9-12 in American Southwest Conference play. While UT Tyler is now 27-2 overall. The Lady Jackets will continue their series against the Patriots tomorrow April 12th,with a double header starting at 3:00 P.M. at Suddenlink Field in Tyler.
