BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University woman's soccer team prevailed over the Southwestern Assemblies of God University 5-1 with five different Lady Jackets scoring in a non-conference match Friday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field.
Howard Payne's defensed held the SAGU Lions scoreless in the first period limiting them to just four first half shots, Though only recording two shots in the second period, SAGUÂ was able to score in the 68th minute of the game.
The Lady Jackets led the game 25-6 in total shots, and 12-3 in shots on goal. Lady Jacket sophomore
Kelsey Bunch led the team in with six shots and three shots on goals for the game.
Howard Payne held a 2-0 advantage at the break after goals by
Kara Moore in the 8th minute on a
Kendra Cecil assist and
Kelsey Bunch goal in the 20th minute.Â
The Lady Jackets added three more scores in the second period. Keagan Sims scored on a
Marisah Mata assist in the 68th minute,
Carrie Gerdes scored on a
Katie Burnside assist in the 73rd minute and
Lesly Garcia netted a score in the 80th minute on anÂ
Ajacia Mojica and
Carrie Gerdes assists.
Howard Payne is now 3-2-1 overall in the season while SAGU is now 2-2 on the year. The Lady Jackets will hit the road to go up against Wayland Baptist on Tuesday Sep 17th at 4:00 pm in Plainview.
