PLAINVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's soccer team lost its fight with the Wayland Baptist Pioneers 0-3 in an away match played Tuesday afternoon.
The match started slow with the Pioneers getting the first shot in the fifth minute, HPU following with their first shot in the sixth minute of the half. The Lady Jackets were able to hold off the Pioneers until the 25th minute mark, when the Pioneers scored their first goal, ending the half 1-0.
Wayland Baptist scored their second goal of the game in the 51st minute of the match with a header in front of the goal, followed by their third and final goal at the 67th minute mark.
The Lady Jackets had opportunities but fell behind 19-12 in total shots, and 7-5 in shots on goals.
HPU Junior
Lesly Garcia led the team with four shots, and three shots on goals.
Rayden Hicks played the first 12 minutes in goal for HPU and
Delaney Castor the final 78 allowing the three goals.
Howard Payne is now 3-3-1 on the season, while Wayland Baptist is now 3-0-1 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play at home this Saturday Sep 21st in a 2:00 pm match against Texas College at Citizens National Bank Field.
