BROWNWOOD- The Howard Payne University men's soccer team prevailed over Texas College 4-3 earlier this Saturday afternoon.

With Texas College leading 2-0 ten minutes into the second period, Howard Payne rallied scoring four goals to claim the 4-3 non-conference victory. It was Zachary Moreno who got it started for the Jackets in the 56th minute on an assist from Angel Rivas.

Just two minutes later, Junior Esdras Calvac scored his first collegiate goal (Esdras Calvac assist) in the 58th minute mark, tying the match at 2-2.

Texas College retook the lead in the 69th minute but HPU answered in the 79th minute with an Alexander Paz goal (Angel Rivas assist) to tie the match 3-3.

Senior Yellow Jacket Joshua Rodriquez scored the game winning goal in the 87th minute of the match off of an assist from Angle Rivas and Alexander Paz, making the final score 4-3.

For the match, HPU trailed 31-13 in shots and 15-6 in shots on goals. Yellow Jacket freshman Alexander Paz led the team with four shots, along with six other teammates shooting one shot on goal.

Howard Payne is now 1-6 overall, while Texas College is now 2-6-1 in the year. Howard Payne will play the University of Texas at Dallas on Thursday Sep 26th in a 4:30 pm match at Citizens National Bank Field.
