BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University woman's soccer team battled back from a 2-0 deficit to fall 2-1 to Texas Lutheran University in the Lady Jacket home opener on Friday at Citizens National Bank Field.
Finding themselves down 2-0 eight minutes into the second period, the Lady Jacket rallied and were able to find the net just six minutes later. HPU's
Carrie Gerdes scored in the 59th minute of the game, her first of the season, on a Keagan Sims assist.Â
The Lady Jackets out-shot the Bulldogs by three and gained four more corner kick opportunities in the second period but would not be able the secure a win in the 2-1 final.
Freshman Keagan Sims and
Heaven Rossette led the Lady Jackets in shots with three shots each, Rossette's were all on goal. HPU and TLU both posting 16 total shots each as a team,Â
HPU's
Delaney Castor played all 90 minutes in the goal, recording five saves and her first loss of the season.Â
Howard Payne is now 2-1 overall in the season, while Texas Lutheran at 2-0 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play at home Saturday Sep 7th, against Schreiner University at 2:00 pm at Citizens National Bank Field.Â
