Lady Jackets Drop Game To Cowgirls

Box Score ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team picked up an 82-49 loss to conference opponent Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Athletic Center.

Howard Payne struggled offensively connecting on just 28.3% of its shots while Hardin-Simmons shot 45.5% from the field in the game.

With Howard Payne leading 10-4 at the start of the game, Hardin-Simmons when on a run to gain a 22-14 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Even though HPU out rebounded HSU 42-37 in the game, Hardin-Simmons outscored the Lady Jackets in the next three quarter to the 82-49 final.

Bria Neal led the Lady Jackets with 12 points followed by Lilly Janek with 11 points. Janek was 3 of 4 from behind the arc. Anastasia Willis led in rebounding with five.

Hallie Edmondson led HSU with 17 points followed by Taylor Gaffney with 14 points and Karlea Ritchie with 13 points.

Howard Payne is now 6-8 overall and 2-3 in American Southwest Conference action. Hardin-Simmons stands at 11-3 overall and 5-0 in league play. The Lady Jackets will continue on the road next week with a Thursday game at East Texas Baptist (5:30 pm) and Saturday at LeTourneau University (1:00 pm).
