MARSHALL, Texas - After leading at the half, the Howard Payne University women's basketball team dropped a conference matchup with East Texas Baptist University 63-49 Thursday evening.
Shooting 53.8% from the field in the opening quarter, Howard Payne led 25-22 at the half but would only score four points in the third to trail going into the fourth.
The Lady Jackets would have their biggest scoring quarter of the night in the fourth but ETBUÂ outscored HPU 24-20 and claimed the 63-49 final.
Chelsey Harris led HPU with 18 points along with a game high five steals. Harris was 4 of 6 from behind the arc.
Anastasia Willis followed with 10 points.
Salina Ali added six points and a game high four assists.
ETBU was led by Kim Childress with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 6-9 overall and 2-4 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU stands at 10-4 overall and 4-1 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play next on Saturday at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas at 1:00 pm.
