BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team have five players score in double-digits and defeat the University of the Ozarks 97-92 in double overtime.
In a game that saw eight lead changes, Howard Payne would force 28 Ozark turnovers and score 27 fast break points to Ozarks' six.
With the Lady Jackets only shooting 53.2% from the free-throw line in the game. It would come down to free-throw with HPU hitting key charity shots to keep the game going to overtimes and securing the win.
The Lady Jackets shot 30 free-throws in the OT periods with four Ozark players fouling out if the game.
Howard Payne dominated the time of lead in the game with Ozarks only leading the game a total of 1:37.
The Lady Jackets were led by
Bria Neal with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Anastasia Willis finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Mallory Garcia added 18 points on 4 of 7 three-point shooting.
Lily Janek had 16 points with 3 of 6 three-point shooting and five steals.
Chelsey Harris had 14 points and
Salina Ali finished with a game high nine assists.
Ozarks was led by Hannah Weatherford with 24 points and Carly Dougan with 18 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 7-10 overall and 3-5 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks stands at 5-12 overall and 0-8 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next on Saturday at home versus UT Dallas at 1:00 pm.
