HOBBS, NM - The Howard Payne University men's tennis team picked up its second win of the year in a 4-3 decision at the University of the Southwest Saturday on the road.
For the second straight match the Yellow Jackets have played solid pulling out a one point victory.
Playing single point for doubles rules, the Yellow Jackets were only able to take on of the three doubles matches.
Micah Hunter and
Hunter Green won 7-5 in number three doubles play.
It would be in singles play that the Jackets made their mark on the day winning four of the six singles points.
Gabe Benitez won 6-0, 6-3 in number two singles,
Micah Hunter won 6-2, 6-3 in number four singles,
Hunter Green won 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in number five singles, and playing in number six singles it was
Jonathan Villareal winning 6-4, 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets are now 2-2 on the season, USW falls to 0-2 overall. The Jackets will play next on Feb. 22nd versus the University of the Ozarks in Abilene, Texas at 10:00 am then later that day take on Hardin-Simmons in an ASC West Division matchup starting at 3:00 pm.
