BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team improved to 3-1 on the year with a double-header split with the University of Dallas Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Game One
Four Errors played a huge factor in the Lady Jackets 2-0 game one loss to UDallas.
Tia Campos received the loss in the start but both runs were unearned. Campos recorded seven strikeouts and walked just two in the seven inning outing.
Howard Payne also outhit the Crusaders 6-4 in the game with
Tonya Thompson leading the way going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Game Two
Despite recording four errors in the field again, the Lady Jackets were able to outscore UDallas 9-6 with three-run fifth and sixth innings.
Alexis Sullivan went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Kayla Hill followed going 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI and
Tori Muro was 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI.
Hannah Morales recorded the win in relief throwing the final 1.1 innings.
Olivia Rivera struckout four in the start for HPU while giving up three runs on four hits.
Zalayna Perez went 2.2 innings of middle relief allowing three runs on three hits.
Howard Payne is now 3-1 overall and UDallas stands at 3-1 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on home on Feb. 21-22 versus conference opponent East Texas Baptist. It will be a double header on Friday starting at 12:00 noon and a single on Saturday at 12:00 noon.
