BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team fell 12-0 and 15-5 to #13 East Texas Baptist University to open conference play Friday afternoon at Lady Jackets Field.
Game One
ETBUÂ used a six-run third to open up the game on the way to 12-0 final in five innings. The Lady Jackets left eight runners on base in the game.
Kiley Persons,
Aurora Luera and
Alexis Sullivan each recorded a hit for Howard Payne.
Tia Campos (1-2) recorded the loss in the start for HPU allowing four runs on just one hit in two innings of work.Â
Zalayna Perez saw three innings of action in relief allowing eight runs on nine hits.Â
Game Two
The Lady Jackets started the game strong scoring two runs in the bottom of the first tying the game at 2-2. An Alexis Sullican single scored Persons and then a
Kayla Hill ground out to short plated
Tonya Thompson.
HPU added another run in the third on a Thompson single up the middle to bring home Luera.
After a seven run fourth by ETBU, the Lady Jackets loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning and would walk in two runs giving HPU five runs in the game.
Six different Lady Jackets recorded hits in the game with Luera's being a double.
Hannah Morales (2-1) got the loss in the start for HPU throwing 3.1 innings and allowing four runs on four hits and striking out two.

Anndi Cortez and
Bree Cason each saw less than an inning in relief.
Howard Payne is now 3-3 overall and 0-2 in American Southwest Conference action. ETBU stands at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in league play. The two teams will finish their conference series on Saturday with a single game starting at 12:00 noon.
