BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team falls 1-0 in ten inning thriller to #13 East Texas Baptist University to finish the first conference weekend series of the 2020 season.
After a stellar performance by HPU's Tia Campus and the Lady Jacket defense, East Texas Baptist scored on a wild pitch in the top of the tenth inning to gain a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Jackets would load the bases in the bottom of the inning after the runner was placed on second, a single to the pitcher by
Alexis Sullivan and
Kayla Anderson was hit by a pitch. The next two HPU batters struckout to end the game.
Both pitchers dueled the entire game with HPU's
Tia Campos throwing a complete game, ten innings, only giving up four hits and one run for the lady Jackets.
ETBU was throwing a no-hitter till the eighth when HPU'sÂ
Kayla Anderson singled down the right field line.
Alexis Sullivan also recorded a hit in the tenth.
The Lady Jackets fall to a 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the American Southwest Conference action. ETBUÂ stands at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in league play. They will take on Schreiner University at home in a doubleheader matchup next Tuesday, February 25th, starting at 12 p.m.
