BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University's Aurora Luera recorded five hits for the Lady Jackets in double-header losses to Schreiner University Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

HPU's Aurora Luera was 5-for-6 at the plate in the two games. Luera also was 3-for-3 in stolen bases in game one of the double-header.

Game One
Howard Payne was plagued by errors committing five in the game. While, Schreiner used a three-run first and a four-run sixth outhitting Howard Payne 12-5 .

The Lady Jackets got their only run in the bottom of the first when Tonya Thompson grounded out to score Luera from third.

Luera was 3-for-3 at the plate with Emily Martinez and Ragen Noriega also recording hits.

Hannah Morales recorded the loss for HPU in the start going just .1 inning allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits. Olivia Rivera went 1.1 innings of relief allowing just one hit and striking out one. Bree Cason threw the final 5.1 innings allowing six runs (one earned) on seven hits and striking out three.

Game Two
The Lady Jackets struggled defensively again committing four errors in the game. This time Schreiner outhit HPU 16-5 in the game.

HPU got both of its runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Luera scored from first base after a throwing error by Schreiner on a failed pickoff. Kiley Persons would score on a wild pitch later in the inning.

Luera finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate for HPU with Kiley Persons and Tori Muro also recording hits.

Zalayna Perez (0-1) went the distance in the start for HPU recording the loss. Perez allowed 8 runs (5 earned) on 16 hits.

Howard Payne is now 3-6 overall and Schreiner stands at 4-8 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next on Feb. 28-29 at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. It will be a DH on Friday starting at 3:00 pm and a single on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.
