BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team fell 5-2 in its series finale with the University of Texas at Dallas but took the weekend series overall 2-1.
With Howard Payne leading 2-0 after four innings, UT Dallas used a four-run fifth to take the lead and the eventual final 5-1 with a single run in the seventh.
Aurora Luera scored in the first for HPU on an
Alexis Sullivan ground out and
Tori Muro came home on a Luera single up the middle in the second to give the Lady Jackets a 2-0 advantage.
Luera and Muro each recorded two hits for Howard Payne with
Kiley Persons and
Alexis Sullivan also adding hits.
Tia Campos recorded the loss in the start throwing all seven frames. Campos allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits and striking out four.
Howard Payne now stands at 5-10 overall and 2-7 in American Southwest Conference action. UT Dallas is now 5-12 overall and 2-8 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next at home on Tuesday versus Huston-Tillotson University. It will be a double header starting at 12:00 noon.
