ABILENE, Texas- The Howard Payne University men's soccer team defeated McMurry University 3-1 to pick up their first win in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night at Wilford Moore Stadium.
Yosmar Reyes scored the first goal of the match in the 20th minute on an assist from Zach Moreno. Less than 30 seconds later, McMurry answered to tie the game 1-1.
Zach Moreno scored in the 42nd minute on an assist from
Taylor Hefner to put the Jackets on top 2-1 at the halfway mark.
Mikel Santamaria scored the third and final goal for the yellow jackets in the 48th minute of the match. The Howard Payne defense was able to hold off McMurry for the remainder of the match, making the final score 3-1.

Eduardo Flores played all 90 minutes for HPU, allowed one goal, and made three saves.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-9-1 on the season and 1-5-0 in American Southwest Conference action. The War Hawks fall to 3-10 overall, and 1-5 in Conference play.
Howard Payne will take on Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, Oct. 16th at 7:30 PM in Abilene, Texas.
