BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University women's soccer team tied 2-2 with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in double overtime Saturday afternoon at Citizen's National Bank Soccer field. Howard Payne's
Delaney Castor set the HPU record for saves in a game with 24 versus UMHB.
Katie Burnside scored the first goal of the afternoon on an assist from
Kendra Cecil and
Caitlyn Hernandez in the 31st minute to give the Lady Jackets the 1-0 lead at the halfway mark.
Lindsey Schiller scored in the 58th minute to give Howard Payne the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Jacket defense held off the Cru until the 62nd minute of the match. UMHB scored again in the 69th minute to ultimately send the match into overtime.
Neither team was able to score in 20 minutes of overtime. The final result was a 2-2 draw.
Delaney Castor played on 90 minutes in goal for HPU, allowing two goals, and recording a school record 24 saves. The previous record was 19 held by Heather Parrish and set against Hardin-Simmons in 2006.
Howard Payne is now 8-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will take on McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, on Thursday, Oct. 14th at 5 PM.
