KERRVILLE, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team fell in the closing minute 86-80 at Schreiner University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. HPU's
Bria Neal recorded a career-high 25 points in the game.
With the game tied at 77-77 with under a minute left to play, Schreiner was able to get a basket to take the lead and make 5 of 6 free-throws in the closing seconds to claim the 86-80 final over Howard Payne.
Howard Payne did trail by as much as 15 points (59-44) in the third quarter, but a 16-3 run by the Lady Jackets to closeout the period left HPU only trailing 62-60 going into the final period.
Following
Bria Neal's 25 points and 11 rebounds was
Chelsey Harris with 22 points. Lily Janel added 12 points and four assists.
Schreiner was led by Demauria Miles with 16 points.
Howard Payne is now 1-5 overall and Schreiner stands at 2-4 on the season. The Lady Jackets will play the University of St. Thomas on Sunday at 12:00 noon.
