SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team fell 9-6 in a matchup at Trinity University Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
The Yellow Jackets used a six-run sixth inning to pull within one, 7-6, after two multiple run innings by the Tigers.
Howard Payne got its first run in the sixth when
Nolyn Box scored on a wild pith. After Trinity walked the bases full,
David Paleo drew a walk to plate
Jonathan McKay. Then a two-run RBI double by
Derek Gifford and
Trevor Fletcher gave the Jackets four more runs to round out the six run inning.
The Yellow Jackets used eight pitchers in the game.
Ricky Mays recorded the loss in the start going 3.0 innings and allowing four runs on three hits and walking four.
Cyah Daniel,
Preston Taylor,
Gary Blair, Landon Blass,
Dean Evans, Reese Glenn, and
Johnny Cravey each saw time in relief for HPU.
Trevor Fletcher led the Jackets going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and two RBI.
Derek Gifford finished the game 1-for-5 with two RBI.

Rylee McGee all recorded one hit each.
The Yellow Jackets will play next this weekend at home in a conference series versus the University of Texas at Dallas, A single game on Friday starting at 2:00 pm And a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.
