BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University women's soccer team lost its home opener 3-1 to Our Lady Of the Lake University Wednesday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field.

The first half was a close battle between the Lady Jackets and the Saints. OLLU took nine shots while HPU only took one. The score was 0-0 at the half.

In the 71
st minute of the match, Kyleigh Spree-Kola of Our Lady of the Lake scored the first goal of the game. Minutes later in the 76
th minute, Spree-Kola scored again to put the Lady Jackets down by two.

Emily McClendon scored a goal to bring the Lady Jackets back within one in the 85
th minute of the game. She was assisted by
Kelsey Bunch. The Saints answered back two minutes later to put the game away.

HPU goal keeper,
Delaney Castor had 16 saves for the Lady Jackets.

The Lady Jackets start the 2020-21 season 0-1 while Our Lady of the Lakes moves to 1-0 . The Lady Jackets will take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, Feb. 12 in Belton, Texas.
