KERRVILLE, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team split a double header at Schreiner University 10-1 and 2-3 to start the 2021 season.

The Lady Jackets out hit the Mountaineers 17-11 in the double header which included three homeruns and five doubles for Howard Payne.

Game One
Scoring in every inning of the game, the Lady Jackets dispensed of the Mountaineers 10-1 in five innings. 

Alexis Sullivan, Deandra Longoria, and Brianna Lopez all homered for Howard Payne. Sullivan finished 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI. Alyssa Corpus and Tori Muri each were 2-for-3 with two RBI.

HPU's Bree Cason recorded the win allowing just one run on four hits in the complete game.

Game Two
The Lady Jackets found themselves down early in game two after single scores by the Mountaineers in the first three innings.

Howard Payne started to rally in the sixth with an Alexis Sullivan RBI single to plate Aurora Luera and later Sullivan scoring on an error by the center fielder.

HPU would strand the tying run in the top of the seventh in the 2-3 Schreiner final.

HPU's Tia Campos recorded the loss in the start but struckout three in the complete game.

The Lady Jacket double header scheduled at Austin College for Friday, Feb. 12th has been canceled due to expected poor weather at game time. HPU will play next on Feb. 16th at the University of Dallas. A double header starting at 2:00 pm.
