CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas- The Howard Payne baseball team dropped two games versus the University of the Ozarks by scores of 5-4 and 9-0 on Friday afternoon.
Game one
The Yellow Jackets outhit the Eagles 11-8 on the way to a 5-4 loss in seven innings.
Howard Payne got on the board in the third inning on a
Stephen Prewitt single that scored
Joey Villarreal. The Jackets went on to score three more runs in the third. The Eagles answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third making the score 4-3.
The Jackets went scoreless the rest of the game and could not hold off the Eagles, dropping the first game of the series 5-4.
Derek Gifford went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI for the Jackets.
Chandler Paul pitched six innings for the Jackets allowing four runs on seven hits. Xaiver Haines recorded the loss allowing one run on one hit.
Game two
The Yellow Jackets were unable to get on the board in the second game of the afternoon. The Eagles scored five runs in the second inning and the Jackets were unable to answer.
Noah Coronado went 1-for-1 at the plate for the Jackets while
Nolyn Box went 1-for-2.
Bryant Chamber pitched three innings for the Jackets and recorded the loss, allowing six runs on six hits.
Howard Payne moves to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the American Southwest Conference. Ozarks improves to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The two teams will finish out the series on Saturday, March 6th at 1 pm.
