Box Score ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne University football team recorded its first win under new head football coach
Jason Bachtel. The Yellow Jackets defeated Sul Ross State University 53-34 scoring 36 unanswered points in the game.
The Yellow Jacket offense totaled 677 yards (280 rushing, 397 passing), four passing TDs and three rushing. The Howard Payne defense held Sul Ross State to just 100 yards rushing with nine tackles for loss and two sacks.
HPU receiver
Jake Parker hauled in three TD passes of 50 yards or more. Parker had nine catches for 197 total yards and a long of 60 yards. Running back
Billy Reagins scored three TDs all in the redzone for the Jackets with seven carries for 65 yards.
HPU QB
Landon McKinney was 19 of 30 passing for 372Â yards and four TDs.
Tauren Bradley led the Yellow Jackets ground crew with 90 yards on 16 attempts.
Greg Borgeson and
Selah Smith also recorded touchdown receptions for the Jackets.
Peyton Lowe led the Jackets defensive attack with seven tackles, 1.5 for loss.
James Jakubowski followed with five tackles, one for loss.
Head Coach
Jason Bachtel picked up his first win as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket program. Howard Payne is now 1-1 overall and Sul Ross State is at 0-3 on the year
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Hardin-Simmons University next week for a 1:00 pm kickoff versus the Cowboys.
