AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team finished its weekend series with 7-5 loss to conference opponent Concordia University Texas.

Xavier Haines got just his first start of the year going five innings and allowing just two runs on three hits and striking out four.Â
The Yellow Jackets recorded one run in their first at bat on a Concordia balk with the bases loaded.
The Yellow Jackets used a four-run top of the fifth to gain a 5-2 lead but allowed four runs in the bottom of the inning to fall behind 6-5.
In the fifth,
Wylan Kolts singled to score
Carson Wert and then a
Tanner Benson three-rum homer brought the HPU lead to 5-2.
Concordia added one run in the bottom of the eighth on the way to the 7-5 final.
Ricky Mays recorded the loss in relief allowing four runs on two hits.
Landin Blass and
Preston Taylor also saw action in relief for HPU.
The Yellow Jackets will be on the road again next weekend at Sul Ross State University to finish out the season.
