BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University football team recorded 639 yards of total offense in a 43-17 conference victory over Texas Lutheran University Saturday afternoon at Gordon Wood Stadium.
The Howard Payne offense had 208 yards rushing and 431 yards passing against Texas Lutheran while the Yellow Jackets defense held the Bulldogs to 358 total yards (222 rushing, 136 passing).
The Yellow Jackets scored in each quarter of the game with the largest offensive output coming just after the half. HPU would outscore TLU 20-7 in the third quarter to open up 33-10 advantage going into the final quarter.
Howard Payne's
Landon McKinney threw for 353 yards (20-for-31) and three touchdowns.
Stephen Willis was the top rusher for the Jackets with 93 yards on just four carries.
Tauren Bradley followed closely with 88 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown.
Nick Infante and
Jackson Coulson also saw time at quarterback for the Jackets late in the game.
HPU's
Jake Parker was McKinney's top target with five catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
Josh Aldama had two receptions for 80 yards.
Max McCuiston and
Casey Dufner each had a catch for a touchdown in the game.

Kyle Bell & Peyton Lowe combine for 16 tackles vs TLU
Peyton Lowe anchored the HPU defense with 10 tackles, five solo, one for loss, one forced fumble, and one QB hurry. Jerett Brown,
Kyle Bell,
Riley Butts each added six tackles. Butts would have two tackles for loss.
TLU was led DaKory Willis and Jacob Forton with 79 and 73 yards rushing respectively. Each would also score a rushing touchdown. Sultan Abdullah led the TLU defense with nine total tackles, eight solo.
The Yellow Jackets will be on the road next Saturday at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas on Sept. 11th for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
