BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University's women's basketball team fell 83-51 to conference opponent Hardin-Simmons University Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne was led by
Asia Mitchell with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Trynadee Greenwell followed with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Elaina Buchanan added six rebounds.
A 17-6 second quarter for Hardin-Simmons would lead to a 37-20 Cowgirl halftime advantage. After a 30-point HSU fourth, the game ended in the 83-51 final.
Howard Payne shot just 33.3% from the field while Hardin-Simmons connected on 50% of its shots.
HSU was led by Kylie Ellsworth with 17 points. Four other Cowgirls scored 11 points each.
Howard Payne is now 2-7 overall and 0-3 in American Southwest Conference while Hardin-Simmons improves to 6-2, 3-0 in league play. The Lady Jackets will take on McMurry University on Saturday at home. It will be a 1:00 pm start time.
