San Antonio, Texas – The Howard Payne University softball team narrowly dropped two games to Trinity University this evening, 0-2 and 3-4.
Game One
The Howard Payne Lady Jackets outhit the Trinity University Tigers 6-3 but stranded six runner to drop gome one 2-0.
The Lady Jackets were able to hold off the Tigers until the 4th inning, allowing 2 runs in making it an 0-2 ball game.
Kiley Persons went 2-for-3 at the plate, and
Tori Muro,
Elaine Gonzalez, and
Madison Forrester went 1-for-2.
Heather Wineman pitched 6.0 innings in the start for the Lady Jackets allowing 2 runs on 3 hits.
Game Two
HPU quickly took the lead in the first inning making it a 2-0 game on a 2 RBI single from
Tori Muro.
Trinity University scored one run in the first inning, and two in the fourth, to make it a close 3-2 game.
The Lady Jackets battled and were able to tie up the score 3-3 in the 7th inning on a
Kiley Persons groundout to score
Alexia Perkkio.
The Tigers took the 4-3 led in the bottom of the eighth to claim the one run final.
Madison Forrester led the Lady Jackets at the plate going 4-for-4.
Tori Muro went 2-for-4.
Bree Cason pitched 3.2 innings allowing three runs on five its.
Hannah Morales was the reliever pitching 4.0 innings and only allowing one run.
The Lady Jackets will face Bellhaven University next on Monday March 14th at the Lady Jacket Park in Brownwood, Texas at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
