BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University Lady Jacket softball team dropped two games against the #8 ranked Belhaven University Blazers 1-3, and 0-7 Monday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.
Game One
Howard Payne was able to score early on getting ahead of the Blazers with a RBI single to right center from
Elaine Gonzalez.
The Lady Jackets held off the Blazers until the 6th inning, allowing 2 runs to come in making it a 1-2 game.
The Blazers added one more run to the board in the 7th inning, HPU was unable to answer dropping the first game 1-3.
Heather Wineman pitched 6.0 innings for the Lady Jackets allowing three runs on five hits with one strikeout.
Isabella Buckley saw action in relief throwing the last inning and allowing no runs and one hit.
Game Two
Belhaven outhit HPU 13-4 leading to their seven runs against the Lady Jackets in game two.
The Blazers scored the first run in the third inning, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth.
HPU was unable to record any scores leading to the second loss of the day.
Catcher Patricia Davila lead the Lady Jackets at the plate going 2-for-3 with two singles.
Bree Cason pitched 7.0 innings for the Lady Jackets allowing five runs on 11 hits nd striking out three.
Isabella Buckley came in to pitch allowing two runs on two hits.
Howard Payne is now 2-15 overall and 0-11 in American Southwest Conference play. Belhaven stands at 14-1 overall and 7-1 in league play. The two teams will finish out their conference series tomorrow with a single game starting at 12:00 noon.
