CLARKSVILLE, AR – The Howard Payne University Lady Jacket softball team dropped two games to University of the Ozarks in today's conference double header, 6-8 and 6-7.
Game One
Ozarks was able to take the lead early scoring one run in the first inning, and three in the second.
Howard Payne scored the first run in the fourth caused by an error from the Ozarks centerfielder advancing
Alexia Perkkio to home.
The Lady Jackets added four more runs in the fifth by an RBI single from
Madison Forrester.
Elaine Gonzalez reached on a fielders choice allowing
Madison Forrester to score. Patricia Davila reached base with a RBI double giving HPU the lead 5-3.
The Ozarks brought in four more runs in the fifth making it a 7-5 ball game.
HPU scored one run in the seventh but were unable to answer, dropping the first game 6-8.
Alexia Perkkio lead the Lady Jackets at the plate going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Kiley Persons and Madison Cason each went 1-for-2.
Heather Wineman recorded the loss pitching 6.0 innings allowing eight runs on 14 hits, and striking out three.
Game Two
The Ozarks scored two runs in the first inning making it a 2-0 game.
HPU came in strong in the fourth inning scoring five runs by an RBI single from Patricia Davila, 2 RBI single from
Hannah Morales, RBI single to the pitcher by
Alexia Perkkio, and an RBI single to pitcher from
Madison Forrester.
The Ozarks scored four more runs in the fourth giving them the lead, 6-5.
Kiley Persons reached first on a fielders choice in the sixth, allowing Madison Cason to advance home making it a 6-6 game.
The Ozarks brought in one run in the seventh, leading HPU to drop the second game of the series 6-7.
Patricia Davila went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Alexia Perkkio,
Madison Forrester, and
Elaine Gonzalez each went 2-for-3.
Hannah Morales was the starting pitcher in game two recording seven runs on 15 hits.
The Lady Jackets will play the last game of the series against Ozarks on Saturday April, 2nd at 11:00 am.
