CLARKSVILLE, AR – The Howard Payne University softball team dropped its series finale today 3-7 to the University of the Ozarks Eagles.
The Eagles put three runs on the board in the first inning to take the lead 3-0.
In the third inning, the Lady Jackets scored two with a RBI single groundout to second base to allow
Mariah Gaytan to come in.
Kiley Persons singled to left field bringing in Madison Cason making it a close 2-3 game.
The Eagles were able to add two more runs in the third and one in the fourth.
HPU scored one run in the fourth on a solo homer by
Ashley Pruiett but were unable to take the lead dropping the game 3-7.
Tara Campos was the starting pitcher for the Lady Jackets pitching 2.2 innings allowing five runs on six hits.
Bree Cason was the reliever for Campos pitching 1.1 innings and allowing two runs on three hits.
Heather Wineman closed out the game pitching 2.0 innings recording zero runs on one hit.
The Lady Jackets are now 4-22 overall, and 1-17 in conference play. The Eagles advance to 6-17 overall and 4-13 in conference play.
HPU will play Sul Ross State University next in a three game series starting Friday April 8th, and 3:00 pm in Alpine, Texas.
