BROWNWOOD, TEXAS - The Howard Payne University softball team dropped two close games to the University of Texas at Dallas Comets, 2-4, and 3-6.

Game one
The Comets put up two runs in the first inning giving them the lead 2-0 against the Lady Jackets.

In the third inning, the Lady Jackets kept it a close game scoring one run from a fielding error made by the Comets.

The Lady Jackets were able to tie up the game 2-2 from a groundout to first base by
Madison Forrester which advanced
Deandra Longoria to home.
Â
The Comets added one run in the fifth, and one run in the sixth to take the lead 4-2.

The Lady Jackets were unable to answer dropping game one of the series 2-4.
Â
Alexia Perkkio led HPU at the plate going 2-for-4.
Deandra Longoria was 1-for-2 at the plate with one run scored.

Bree Cason recorded the loss pitching 7.0 innings recording only four runs on ten hits with two strikeouts.

Game Two
UT Dallas started off hot scoring four runs in the first inning taking a big lead 4-0.

The Lady Jackets were able to get in reach of tying the game by scoring three runs in the third with help from a single up the middle by
Deandra Longoria, bunt by
Elaine Gonzalez, and a single to left center by
Tori Muro, all advancing runners home.

The Comets added one run in the fifth, and one run in the sixth resulting in the Lady Jacket loss, 3-6.

Tori Muro went 2-for-3 in game two with two singles.
Â
Heather Wineman was the starting pitcher for the Lady Jackets and recorded four runs on four hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
Hannah Morales was the reliever for the remainder of the game pitching 6.1 innings and recording two runs on eight hits.

UT Dallas advances to 22-11 overall and 14-9 in conference. The Lady Jackets are now 4-27 overall and 1-22 in conference play.

The last game of the series will begin tomorrow April, 15 at 12 noon in Brownwood, Texas at the Lady Jacket Park.Â
