BROWNWOOD, TEXAS – The Howard Payne Lady Jacket softball team earned their second conference win in the series finale against the University of Texas at Dallas Comets, 3-2.
 
The Lady Jackets outhit the comets 8-5 and were able to hold them off for 4 innings giving HPU a close 3-2 win.
 
UT Dallas started early scoring their two runs in the first inning.
 
HPU was able to fight back scoring the tying runs in the bottom of the first with a two RBI single from catcher Patricia Davila which advanced Madison Cason and Madison Forrester home.
 
The winning run for the Lady Jackets was scored in the third inning on an RBI single by Elaine Gonzalez which brought in Madison Cason, giving HPU the lead 3-2.
 
HPU's Elaine Gonzalez was 2-for-2 at the plate. Madison Cason went 2-for-3.
 
Bree Cason recorded the win pitching the full seven innings allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
 
The Lady Jackets will face McMurry University next in Abilene, Texas in a three game series starting Friday at 2:00 pm on April 22, 2022.
