ABILENE, TEXAS – The Howard Payne University Lady Jacket softball team dropped two games in the doubleheader series to McMurry University Warhawks, 1-9 and 3-4.
 
Game One
Howard Payne was outhit by the Warhawks 5-15 and committed two errors leading to the eight-run loss.
 
The Warhawks scored one in the first inning, and two in the second to give a 3-0 lead against the Lady Jackets.
 
HPU scored their only run in the third on an RBI groundout to second from Madison Cason advancing Ayleen Castillo home.
 
The Warhawks added three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth, giving HPU the loss.
 
Ayleen Castillo led the Jackets going 1-for-1 at the plate. Madison Forrester and Deandra Longoria each went 1-for-2.
 
Heather Wineman was the starting pitcher recording nine runs on 15 hits with one strikeout in 4.0 innings.
 
Game Two
The Warhawks added two runs to the board in the first inning giving a 2-0 lead against HPU.
 
The Lady Jackets were able to tie up the game in the fourth inning with Madison Cason advancing to home by a fielding error made by the Warhawks, and an RBI single down the right field line by Mariah Gaytan advancing Patricia Davila home making it a 2-2 game.
 
Howard Payne took the lead by one run in the sixth inning on another fielding error by the Warhawks.
 
McMurry added two runs in the seventh leading to the narrow 3-4 loss.
 
Madison Cason led at the plate going 2-for-3.
 
Bree Cason recorded the loss pitching 6.2 innings allowing four runs on seven hits.
 
The Lady Jackets will play the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor next in a three-game series on April 29th beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Lady Jacket Park in Brownwood, Texas.
