BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University's women's basketball team fell 66-43 to conference opponent Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne was led by
Bria Neal with a double-double; scoring 12 points and ten rebounds. She also went 6 of 6 from the free throw line. Neal was followed by
Catlyn Ward with nine points and two rebounds.
Taliyah Bess added eight rebounds and two steals, while
Trynadee Greenwell added four assists.
An 18-10 second quarter for Sul Ross would lead to a 35-24 halftime advantage for the Lobos. After a 31-point SRSU second half, the game ended in the 66-43 final.
Howard Payne shot just 23.5% from the field while the Lobos connected on 32.9% of its shots.
SRSU was led by Brianna Martin with 12 points and Melody Martinez with 11 points.
Howard Payne is now 2-14 overall and 0-9 in American Southwest Conference while Sul Ross State improves to 9-6, 6-3 in league play. The Lady Jackets will take on University of the Ozarks on Thursday, January 19
th at home. It will be a 5:30 pm tip off.
