ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell 109-81 to McMurry University Thursday evening in conference play.
Armonie Ramey led the Yellow Jackets with 15 points and five rebounds.
Miles Koehler followed with 13 points on 3 of 7 three-point shooting.
Jerren Godfrey recorded 10 points off the bench and
Deshon Shorter added nine points with a team-high eight rebounds.
Jarod Johnson dished out a game-high five assists.
Down 59-26 at the half, the Yellow Jackets battled back to under a 20-point deficit in the second out scoring the War Hawks 55-50 in the second period.
Despite HPU forcing 21 McMurry turnovers, it was the War Hawks shooting 51.3% from the field in the game that played a major factor in the 109-81 outcome.
McMurry was led by CJ LeBlanc with 27 points and nine rebounds followed by Elijah Lomas with 19 points.
Howard Payne is now 3-17 overall and 1-11 in American Southwest Conference action. McMurry stands at 5-13 overall and 4-7 in league play. The Jackets will play next on Saturday in Abilene, Texas versus Hardin-Simmons University. It will be a 3:00 pm start time.
